She was born September 16, 1935, in Thrall, Texas to Lucio and Augustina (Romero) Carrillo. She was united in marriage to Frank Castelleja Yanez on April 26, 1959. The two were married for 38 years. He preceded her in death March 4, 1997.
Mary dedicated her life to her family, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. She embraced the most challenging and rewarding role of all—that of a loving mother to nine children. Her devotion extended even further as a caring grandmother to twenty grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to one. She carried each of these roles with unwavering grace, compassion, and strength. Her days were spent nurturing others — whether with a warm meal, a comforting hug, or her quiet but fervent support and prayer. She taught through example the meaning of unconditional love, kindness, and resilience. She made a house feel like home. Her legacy is woven into the lives of the children she raised and the generations that followed.
She was soft-spoken and gentle, but those who truly knew her knew she had a playful spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. Mary loved to laugh — and to make others laugh, too. She was a natural prankster, always ready to prank someone. Mary also enjoyed listening to Tejano music, and especially loved dancing to it. Music brought her joy.
She is survived by her children, Gilbert Yanez of Temple, TX, Robert Yanez and wife Monica of Taylor, TX, Richard Yanez of Thrall ,TX, Linda Dominguez and husband David of Taylor, TX, Sylvia Lopez and husband Arturo of Kyle, TX, Albert Yanez of Thrall, TX, Andrew Yanez and wife Elizabeth of Round Rock, TX, and Carol Vela and husband Raul of Kyle, TX; grandchildren, Michael, Adam, Brianna, Kelly Turner and husband Logan, Jaycen and wife Jessica, Katie, Bianca, Brandon, Nicholas Dominguez, Sarah Russell and husband Jared, Frank, Kamryn, Richard Jr., Kennedy, Trey Vela, Talia, Grace, Brody, Rachel, and Ryan Vela; great grandson, Zane Turner; siblings, Alicia(Lupe) Castillo of Waukesha, WI, Delfina Rodriguez of Wisconsin, Lydia Martinez of Milwaukee, WI, Ubaldo Lara of Austin, TX, and a half-sister, Chana Carrillo of Lubbock. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Francisco Valentine Yanez; sisters Paula Carrizales of Lubbock, TX, Juanita Nieto of Adrian, MI and Elodia Melendez of Waukesha, WI; brothers Antonio Carrillo of Thrall, TX and Juan Lara of Waukesha, WI.
