As a young woman, she worked the candy counter at Woolworth’s Department Store in downtown Taylor and at Prewitt’s Hardware Store selling fine china and crystal.
On October 17, 1943, Mildred married Elvy Eschberger, and the two settled down in Taylor.
The couple had two daughters, Cynthia Gayle and Lori Dayle, who was born with cerebral palsy. Mildred was a loving mother and grandmother who devoted her entire life caring for family including her daughter Lori. Her greatest joy was visiting with her beloved family and friends. She also enjoyed baking, gardening, and sewing, and she was a talented painter.
Mildred was active in many local organizations including the Junior Women’s Study Club and the New Century Club, both which helped serve the community through various projects. As a child, Mildred attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Taylor before transferring to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Mildred is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Elvy, and daughter Lori. She is survived by her daughter Cindy and husband Brunner Grau, four grandchildren, Tiffany Charles and husband Richie, Courtney Trujillo and husband Marc, Micah Grau and wife Mallory, and Priscilla Grau. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren including Chayse and Kacianna Boecker, Elijah and Norah Grau, and Jacob Ray Charles.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor. Funeral services will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Taylor at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11 followed by burial at Taylor City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
