

Vivian Rubye (Brown) Groth, age 96, of Taylor passed away Wednesday January 13, 2016. She was born August 26, 1919 outside of Thorndale, Texas to Frank and Sallie (Slaughter) Brown. Vivian was the 10th child born and the baby of her family.
While working as a cafe waitress in Bastrop, Texas she met her future husband Lawrence (Larry) who was stationed at Camp Swift. He would walk to town to go to the cafe. Vivian felt he looked so sad and one day placed her hand on his to ask if he was ok. The rest is history. They were married at the
Methodist church in Bastrop that same year shortly before Larry shipped off to war. Vivian later took a job as a telephone operator at for Southwestern Bell and moved to San Antonio where she and Larry settled for the next 40+ years raising their two children Donna Faye and Gary Barton.
Vivian was a devout Christian and a long standing member of University Park Baptist Church until moving to Taylor where she joined Memorial Baptist Church and remained a member until her death. One of the highlights of her life was being able to travel to Israel and tour the Holy Land in 1983. It touched her to the core and a trip she never forgot. It was also the first time she had ever flown.
Vivian is survived by daughter, Donna Faye Potter of Bastrop; son, Gary Barton Groth of Boerne, Texas; grandchildren, Amber Dawn Potter of Austin, Spencer William Potter of Bastrop, Tracy Justine Groth of Queens, New York and Carter Dane Groth of Denton, Texas; and great grandchildren , Dahni, Jerad, Isabelle, Presley and Paisley.
She is preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Lawrence George Groth; and was the last surviving member of her parents, Frank and Sarah (Sallie) Brown; 6 brothers, Berman, Wilbur, Gordon, Gettie, Winston, and Wilton; and 3 sisters, Martha (Connie) Gibbons, Yetta Clark and Zelda Sissom.
Funeral services will be held on Monday January 18, at 11 am at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor, TX. A private burial will take place at FT. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Spence Potter, Carter Groth, Jerad Susan, Dennis Sissom, Norman Yeoman, Joey Branson, and Chet Robins.
