Evelyn Kay Buchanan Rowland age 62, of Tazewell, TN was born Wednesday, January 6th, 1960 in Tazewell, TN and was the first baby born in Claiborne County Hospital. She peacefully passed in to the hands of Jesus on January 14th, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was saved at the age of 6 years old and joined Liberty Missionary Baptist Church where she served the Lord as a Deacon’s wife, Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher and Church Clerk for 34 years . She loved the Lord with all her heart and shared his good news with everyone she meet. She told us the happiest day of her life was the day she was saved. She always took time to counsel and encourage those in need as she tirelessly directed them toward the Lord as their Savior and guide, always lifting them up in prayer. Her Presence in our life will be dearly missed.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her infant daughter Reanna Kay Rowland, father Hubert Buchanan Sr.; sister, Helen Butcher; brothers, Clifford and Hubert Jr., in-laws Hubert and Betty Rowland, sister in-law Becky Pace and infant nephew Adam Venable.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 42 years, James Rowland, mother Ruby Buchanan, Sisters: Cleva Lawson, Debbie & Billy Venable, Faye & Jimmy Grubbs, Joyce & Ervin Buchanan, and special sister , Betsy Shultz, sisters in-law; Mary Dennis Janeway; and Debbie Burchett, Brother-in-law: Keith & Sherri Rowland, Nephews, Nieces: BJ , Krissi, Kailyn & Kassie Williams, Heather, Ray & Ryland Damron; Daniel, Kimberly, Gabriel & Garrett Venable. Joseph Buchanan and Nathan Grubbs; Mark, Taylor and Trey; Matthew, Brooke & Leah Buchanan and families, Monette, Austin and family, Rita, Tabatha & Izzy; Rhonda, Ryan, Shane and families; Ray Lynch and family, Tammy Shawna & Arielle; Michael Butcher and the families of Lynn and Stanley Butcher, Summer, Josh, Hannah, Samantha and Sarah and all of their families, special nephews & nieces: Joey, Amanda, Josh, Ben & Racheal Branham; special friend and Prayer Warrior Barbara Anders and a host of other friends and family too numerous to mention.
Jim would like to take time to thank his church family, and all the numerous churches that included his Evelyn in their prayer requests; also each and every person who joined in the prayer chain that granted us an extra year with our dear sweet Evelyn. He would also like to thank Brother Billy and sister Debbie Venable for all they did for him and Evelyn through this struggle to battle the cancer. He would like to ask everyone to remember him in prayer as he faces the days ahead.
Visitation will be Tuesday January 18th from 5-8pm in the Coffey Funeral Home Chapel , Funeral service will be Wednesday January 19, 2022 at 2pm at the Liberty Missionary Baptist church with burial to follow in the Liberty cemetery .
