

He attended Catholic school and graduated from St. George's in Evanston, IL. He worked various jobs as a teenager and enjoyed spending summers helping out on his uncle's farm in Illinois.
He attended DeVry Institute in Chicago and the University of Illinois/Navy Pier studying electronics and engineering.
He began a career working for the Nielsen Company and spent time working in Chicago and Macon, GA. He moved to Mobile, AL in 1963 and met his wife Susan there in 1965. They were married on June 11, 1966 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Chickasaw, AL. In 1968, they moved to Merritt Island, FL where he worked for various NASA contractors building and testing communication stations around the world in support of the Apollo Mission. His son David was born there in 1969. He moved to Johnstown, NY in 1971 to begin 20+ years working as a project manager and systems analyst with GTE/Verizon. He welcomed his son Stephen in 1974. In 1978, the family transferred to Tampa, settling in Temple Terrace. He was blessed with a grandson, Alexander, in 1995.
His priorities in life centered on his family and his faith, and sports. He loved watching and playing many different sports with his children and coached some of their soccer teams. He enjoyed travel, both for business and with his family. His favorite trips were to visit other family. After retiring in 1993, Barry and Susan took many vacations with family and friends to National Parks in the Western US, as well as cruises to Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean and Canada/New England.
He also liked music, mysteries, comedy and non-fiction. While at school, he was a DJ at a very small radio station in Chicago, where on Sunday nights he played classic songs of the era by Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis and Nat King Cole. He had a wonderful singing voice.
He was brilliant, known for his wry, insightful wit as well as for being hard-working and dependable, humble, kind and generous.
He was a dedicated parishioner of Corpus Christi Parrish in Temple Terrace and supported several charities including St. Vincent DePaul and the American Cancer Society.
He was a loving and patient husband, father, grandfather and father in law..
He will be mourned and deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure and privilege to know him.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Mary, David, John, Charlotte and James Riordan.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Susan Riordan; sons, David Riordan and his wife, Heidi Hudson and Stephen Riordan and his partner Carolyn Cesario and her daughter, Megan; grandson, Alexander Johnson and his wife, Rebekka Johnson and her daughter, Sylvia Letellier.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 3, 2024 from 5 to 7 PM at Blount & Curry, Terrace Oaks Chapel, 12690 N. 56th St, Temple Terrace. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at (TIME), Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9715 N. 56th St, Temple Terrace, followed by interment in (CEMETERY NAME AND ADDRESS).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barry's memory to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
