Betty Ann Strickland, age 93, of Thonotosassa, FL, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at her home with loved ones by her side. She was born on March 26, 1930, in Thonotosassa, FL to her parents, James P. Lewis and Bessie Ann Register Lewis. Betty Ann was the youngest of two sisters. She married Floyd H. Strickland in Tampa on June 8, 1947. They had three children. She was a 1947 graduate of Plant City High School. Her great-grandfather, Frank Calvin Lewis, came from Ohio in 1880 with General William P. Hazen to plant orange groves, and to build homes, sawmills, packing houses, the Grand View Hotel, and a mansion on Lake Thonotosassa called Belvedere.
Betty Ann is survived by her loving children, Sharon Strickland Maish (Jim) of McCormick, SC, and Rhonda Kaye Strickland Tuttle (Gary) of Thonotosassa, FL. She is also survived by three grandchildren; Tricia Applewhite (Brian) of Greenville, SC; Danielle Tuttle of Land O’ Lakes, FL; Daniel Speer (Jennifer) of Augusta, GA. Her two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Applewhite-Morgan (Wesley) of Greenville, SC; and Brayden Speer of Augusta, GA. Her great-nephew, Trey Butler (Morgan). Her “adopted” son, Gregory Albright (Craig). A special cousin, Shirley Ann Mason (Ken); and her niece, Debbie Strickland Cates (Scott). Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd H. Strickland (2013); her son, Jimmy Strickland (1992); her sister, Evelyn Lewis Morris (1988) and brother-in-law, James W. Morris (1992); her niece, Sandra Gale Morris (2023). She was followed in death by her fur baby, Trigger.

There will be a private viewing on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Blount & Curry, Terrace Oaks Chapel, Temple Terrace. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Sunset Memory Gardens, Thonotosassa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
