

Charles Edward Scheibly, 83, of Tampa, FL, went home to his Lord on August 1, 2025. He was born in Decatur, Illinois, on May 10, 1942 to Charles and LaVetia (Roady) Scheibly. He was raised in Rockford, Illinois and graduated from Rockford West High School with the class of 1960. He earned a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois and a Masters in Business from Southern Illinois University. While studying at Illinois, he met and married the love of his life, Judy Leifheit.
He is survived by his mother, LaVetia Scheibly, of Fairfield, CA; his wife, Judy, of Tampa; a daughter, Kelly Hoecherl of Tampa; a son, Jon (Jennifer) Scheibly, of Jacksonville Beach; a daughter, Wendy (Kevin) Smith, of Wellington, New Zealand; grandchildren Lt Col Joseph (Emily) Hoecherl, and their children, Claira and Theo; Kevin (Taylor) Hoecherl, and their children, Harrison, Henry, Mercy and Hobbes; Kristin (Adam) Beckmeyer, and their children Job and Gracie; Christopher (Lexi) Scheibly; Emmaleigh Scheibly; Ryan Smith; Riley Smith; Zack (Lukas) Smith; and Hannah Smith; a sister Jodi (Robert) Neimeyer; and a brother-in-law Richard Alvarado, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles A Scheibly; two sisters, Barbara Alvarado, and Carol Silva; and a son-in-law, Col Joseph Hoecherl.
Together he and Judy enjoyed moving often during his career as an aircraft engineer, living in ten different states, eventually retiring in Tampa. He was a wonderful father and grandpa.
Arrangements are being handled by Blount & Curry in Temple Terrace. The funeral service will be held at Christ our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 304 Druid Hills Road, Temple Terrace, FL with The Reverend Eric Friedrichs officiating on Saturday August 16, 2025 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
