

Clarke was born in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Tampa, FL to Mike Tamney and Martha Elizabeth Scott Tamney on June 28th 1945. He grew up on White Trout lake in what is now considered the Carrollwood area of Tampa and graduated from Chamberlain High School, Class of 1963. He was attending Mississippi College when he met the love of his life. Clarke married Vonica Virginia Ervin on November 26th, 1966 in Meridian, Mississippi. Clarke with 3 friends Volunteered for the United States Army. He served in Germany prior to being deployed to the Vietnam War. After returning to his family in the states he graduated from The University of South Florida. Clarke had an entrepreneurial spirit, in 1975 opened Tamney Furniture on Busch Blvd in Temple Terrace. It is here in Temple Terrace that his family took root. He was intensely involved in his children’s lives, coaching sports, providing guidance to the kids and being an inspiration to all.
Clarke is preceded in death by his mother and father Martha and Mike Tamney, his dear sister Judy T Hollifield and brother Robert Tamney.
Clarke is survived by his wife of 59 years Vonica, his daughter Lauri Tamney, his son Michael & his wife Reema Tamney.
Visitation will be 5-6pm with his Celebration of Life starting at 6pm, Tuesday, Dec. 9th at Temple Terrace United Methodist Church with Pastor John Legg presiding.
