Elsbeth "Betsy" Embler Hammond

February 1, 1939 – December 18, 2020
Obituary of Elsbeth "Betsy" Embler Hammond
IN THE CARE OF

Blount & Curry, Terrace Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory

Elsbeth "Betsy" Embler Hammond, 81, formerly of Temple Terrace, Florida passed away at the home of her daughter in Clearwater, Florida on December 18, 2020. Born on February 1, 1939, in Berne, Indiana, she was the only daughter of David C. and Evangeline Rohrer Embler.

Betsy attended school in both Berne and Decatur, Indiana, and graduated from Columbia High School, Columbia, South Carolina after moving south with her family for her senior year. On December 21, 1957, she married John R. Hammond of Decatur, Indiana in Columbia, South Carolina. They remained together for nearly 63 years. Prior to leaving work to start a family she was associated with Home Finance Company, Columbia, SC; Lincoln National Life Insurance Company, Ft. Wayne, IN; and Findlay Automotive, Findlay, OH. Later she was associated with Hillcrest Florist, Newberry, SC and 56th Street Florist, Tampa, Fl. Betsy enjoyed living in various parts of the country throughout John’s career and was heavily invested in her children’s activities including scouting (Jr. Bluebirds, Boy Scouts), The Pinewood Derby Competition, 4-H Horse & Pony Club and Livestock Judging, and the NHS Blue Brigade Marching Band. She cherished every moment with her grandchildren - whether they were splashing in her pool, visiting nearby beaches and theme parks, taking family vacations or tubing together on the Tennessee River. She was a talented artist, gardener, floral designer and DIY handywoman as well as an exuberant HOA President to her beloved Raintree Oaks neighborhood for many, many years.

At the time of her death Betsy was survived by her husband, John; her daughter, Elizabeth A. Hammond of Clearwater, FL; her son, John Matthew Hammond of Huntsville, AL, and his wife Monica Snoddy Hammond; her granddaughter, Olivia Daly Hammond of Auburn, AL; her grandson, 1LT Patrick Rohrer Hammond of Rogersville, AL; brothers and sisters-in-laws, David C. (Janet) Embler, Jonathan V. (Laura) Embler, Paul F. (Lee) Embler and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betsy requested that no formal services be held. The family is planning a private Celebration of Life. Memorials may be made to Suncoast Hospice Foundation, 2675 Tampa Road, Palm Harbor, Fl 34684.
