Elton was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to Elton Edward and Esther Greenwell Smith on November 13th, 1943. He graduated from the University of South Florida. He worked as a civil engineer throughout his full career, notably as the Director of the Sewer Department and of the Transportation Department for the City of Tampa and as the Transportation Manager for WilsonMiller. He was drafted into the Army and served two years stationed in Germany. Elton loved the outdoors from camping to biking to rafting. While working with the city, Elton spearheaded a project to construct the Flatwoods bicycle park, which he enjoyed often. He loved his grandchildren, Dobermans, mystery novels, and Mexican food.
Elton is preceded in death by his father, mother, infant sister, and his dogs.
Elton is survived by his son, Elton Michael and his wife Danielle; his grandchildren Isaac and
Olive; his brother Stephen and his wife Christine; his sister Esther and her husband Wayne;
nephews and nieces.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 27th. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Free Bikes for Kidz Tampa Bay
