James Walter Byrd Jr.

James was born in Tampa to James Walter Byrd Sr and Colleen Compton Byrd on January 10th 1950. He attended Mango elementary school and graduated Brandon High School class of 1968. He joined the Air Force from 1968 to 1972 serving a term of service in Vietnam Nam. He took several college courses related to water environmental programs and obtained his Florida state certifications in environmental water programs. He worked as an Environmental operator for the state of Florida for several years. He transitioned to the private sector and worked for several years in private utilities. He was a member of American Veterans post FL-0004 for years and participated in numerous activities with the organization. James enjoyed working on his vehicles and spending time with a small greenhouse. James was a good cook and could create unique recipes.

James is preceded in death by his parents, James W. Byrd Sr and Colleen Byrd and his sister Diane Fortner.

James was never married. He is survived by two brothers and a sister; Michael B. Byrd, Robert A. Byrd and Gayle Walp. He had many cousins, nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513.
