

Joan was an active member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, including the church’s Ladies Guild. She was a longtime member of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) and enjoyed the friendships she made there. Joan was a social butterfly and also participated in the Temple Terrace Friendship Club and the infamous Red Hat Society. Her weekends often included an activity in one of these groups while also catching the NASCAR race on TV.
She enjoyed crafting with needlepoint making many gifts for friends, family, and church, including nurses that cared for her at Moffitt Cancer Center. Joan loved card games and especially playing Bunco with friends. She stayed active with chair yoga and other activities at the Lightfoot Senior Recreation Center.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Martha Flamion; and her sister, Phyllis Sibrel.
Joan is survived by her husband of 40 years, Clayton Franklin; daughter, Julie Schelb (Ryan); siblings, Rita Hagman, Joseph Flamion, Michael Flamion, Eugene Flamion, Jane Seifert, Karen Kuntz, Carla Cooper, and Joyce Schmitt. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including her dearest niece, Jennifer Durbin. A special thanks to her family and friends who loved her dearly, especially her sister Jane who cared for her during her last weeks.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 am, Friday, November 21, 2025 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, located at 9715 N. 56th Street, Temple Terrace, FL 33617. Visitation will follow the Mass from 12pm - 2pm at Blount & Curry, Terrace Oaks Chapel, located at 12690 N. 56th Street, Temple Terrace, FL 33617.
