ANTON – John Peter. John was born on November 2, 1920 to Peter and Christine Anton. He passed away on December 10, 2014. John received his Ph.D. in 1954, M.A. in 1950, and B.A. in 1949 from Columbia University. He served as the Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Greek Philosophy and Culture at USF. The author of 10 books and over 125 scholarly articles, he led a long and distinguished academic career, was awarded several honorary doctorates, and was a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Athens. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Tampa. John is survived by his loving wife Helen Vezos Anton, son James and wife Frances, grandchildren John and Peter, sons Christopher and Peter, and brother Christopher and wife Helen and family. A visitation will be held Monday, December 15 from 12:30-2:00 PM at Blount & Curry, 12960 N 56 Street, Temple Terrace.
