Thanks for coming to visit us Thursday night. You and I both know I needed that. I miss you so much. I miss calling the house and hearing your voice. It was pouring rain Thursday on my drive home, I know I would've gotten a call to make sure I reached home safe. My own personal CNN/weather man. 

 I woke up this morning with you on my mind, thinking about all the good times we shared. There are SO many memories. You never made us want for anything. You would give your last dollar to us (in the secret stash you hid from grandma). When we were little it was for chicken nuggets and fries at McDonalds and as we got older it was for gas. I remember every year when you got your pension check from NY you would tell grandma, that money is for my grandkids Christmas present, and would share it among us evenly. Some of my best memories is when the five of us grankids would be with you and grandma. You loved to tell us stories, and we loved to hear them! Every story has a life lesson in there somewhere.

You lived to make us happy and we will continue to live in your legacy. We will make sure the next generation knows what an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather you were. You have touched the lives of so many, especially mine. I will continue to have my daily talks with you gramps, I know your always listening.

"When I think of grandpa- I think of courage, strength, honesty, integrity, humor, and most of all unconditional love. His presence could light up the darkest room and his smile could warm the coldest day. He was more than a grandfather; he was a second father and a friend. Every moment with him was a blessing. Gramps you have touched the lives of so many and have been the influential force in a family that you can be proud of. But it doesn't end here. Grandpa was not my grandfather by birth. But he was the only grandfather I've ever had. I was four years old when my family and I moved to America. And he welcomed us as a part of the family.
 He was the biggest supporter I had. He supported me through my education, career, and now I will keep on making him proud. Grandpa accepted my family with open arms and we will forever be grateful for that. His love was so pure and everlasting. To accept strangers and claim them as your family is a gift that grandpa gave us generously. I remember, every time I would go by the house I would hug grandpa and the first thing he'd say to me is "Hi Sarah baby. Have you eaten yet?" Grandpa always made sure everyone was taken care of. 
My grandfathers were not in my life growing up. But grandpa loved me as his own. And he showed me the love only a grandfather could show. My family and I will keep him in our hearts and he will live in our memories forever. We love you and thank you for all you have done for us.

"Grandpa did not have much, but he was the richest man I ever knew - he had an infinite amount of love, compassion, and generosity to give to everyone he interacted with. I don't know how his heart contained such a huge amount of love for him to share with people. And he was so light-handed! Whether it was wisdom, stories, or even money or food, he would never hesitate to give to people.

He was the most accomplished man, creating such a loving and close family to stand with him through the good times and bad - especially through the bad. His proudest achievement was his family - he would talk about us to everyone he came across. 

Grandpa was also the bravest and strongest man I've known. He would tell you exactly what he thought, whenever, and if you didn't like what he had to say? Oh well. He would fight for what he wanted, and for what was best for his family. 

His hair had turned white, and so did his spirit - Grandpa had such a pure and vibrant soul, and I imagine it is blindingly white. His hands turned frail, but they always remained steady in guiding us all in the right direction. His skin turned thin and papery, but that made it more fun to play with wrinkles and scars when we were children. His voice got weak at times, but it never ever wavered from setting us on the right path. You could always count of Grandpa to put a smile on your face. He used his voice like a "cutlass" (he never said "knife"), and carved his home into our hearts, and I know he will never leave. Grandpa claimed that spot as his, and no one will ever be allowed to take it.

Grandpa, we know you're watching us right now and smiling - you always loved when we gave speeches - and we want to tell you that you are loved so incredibly much. You did so much for everyone, Gramps, and you worked so extremely hard to take care of every single person in our family. Now you need to relax. You taught us all well, so we will try to make ourselves into people you will forever be proud of. And the one thing we ask from God, is to give us a Grandpa like you in each of our lives after this one.

"Grandpa is my idol. He was the most loving person I've ever met in my life. Yes, he had his moments when he grumbled and fretted, but what grandpa doesn't. He always put other peoples' wanted before his, and was so light-handed. Be it giving Mom money to go shopping, us grandkids gas money, or his great-grandkids money for McDonald's. 

He always gave, and now it is our time to give back. To give God back an angel, the purest and brightest of them all. Grandpa had a smile that could bring joy to anyone - it was so contagious and so enlightening that you couldn't help but smile back. He was so handsome, and I'm so fortunate to have inherited that trait.

He was valiant and courageous. To bring over his wife and kids to a new country and settle, and establish a successful life is unthinkable. But he did it, and we are all here today because of that. 

He touched every heart in this room in some way. He was such a likeable guy, and I hope to be just like that; to be able to make an impact as strong and everlasting as he did is absolutely remarkable. 

He is everything I wish to be: caring, humorous, courageous, intelligent, and loving. He raised us all to be that way, and I won't let him down. I have always lived to make my parents and grandparents proud, and that's exactly what I will continue to do. 

Grandpa is gone, yes, but he will never be forgotten. Nothing but good memories did he leave us with. Grandpa is my idol, and truly my guardian angel.

"My grandfather will forever be in my heart. My memories of him from childhood through adulthood are filled with nothing but great ones that bring a laugh or a smile to my face. From swimming days spent in the pool, with him as our waiter bringing peanut butter crackers and sodas with straws - just so that we didn't have to get out of the pool; to the birth of his first great-grandchild Victoria Lolina and the second, JuliAnna Priyanka, being so proud of his 4th generation. He gave them the same, but also more, love, care, and concern.

I couldn't have asked God for a better grandfather and father figure to have given away my hand in marriage to my husband Jarvis, and to have been taught how to make life what it is, peacefully, with what we have.

In his words, "Girly, you go do what you have to do." My dear, handsome grandfather, I promise, as the oldest, I will continue with everything in my power to keep our family together as one. I know this is what you always wanted.

Daddy, there are so many great memories to share....where do I begin... You are my hero, the greatest legend in my world. The greatest values in my life were your teachings. Your love and support was unconditional. You were the one who taught me how to cook...one on one every Wednesday when mom would go watch her double features at the cinema. But, I would have to say that of all memories, the last two weeks of your glorious days on earth was the best of my memories. I get to see the true softer side of you...you made me laugh and cry all in the same day. You were ever so gracious to everyone. My heart would swell with pride and emotions of love witnessing all this. "this is my daddy, my treasure!" We even watch 5 movies together on Mother's day! And had meaningful conversations in between that left me in awe. It was that day that I realized you are leaving me. We talked more and more about old days. I didn't what you to stop talking. That was a blessed day for me...it will forever be embedded in my soul...birth after birth. Grandpa. Three words that come to me that describe grandpa would be wise, loving and family. Grandpa was always was a person to offer a lending hand when in need, open arms for hugs and great words of wisdom....even if it wasn't asked for. We are all here today because of his loving touch that he blessed us with. My grandpa was more to me then just a grandfather. He was a best friend that I can count on everyday. Everyday I would walk out of work and make the same phone call and hear the same loving greeting " Hello Grandson, how are you doing today?" Some days I didn't get that response cause one of you were on the phone with grandma and she didnt switch over. No matter what, before that day ended I always got a phone call back and majority of the time it wasn't from grandma. There would be so many times that I wasn't able to answer my phone right away and would get the same voicemail over and over again " Jonny dis ah yuh granfada been call fuh talk to yuh. I love you bbbyyyee". It's sad how much we appreciate and realize how important these little things mean to us after we lose a loved one. Grandpa I will never stop having these conversations with you everyday after work and I expect you to always respond to me. It's sad that we have to let grandpa go but I know no matter what he is always looking down watching over all of us. My grandpa taught me how to be a great man, a man that will help anyone ever in need a man that can stand on his own two feet and a man that knows if he is right about something to be as stubborn as need be until everyone else agrees with me. Physically grandpa may not be here with us but his memories and spirit will be forever lived through all of us. Though we are all still mourning, grandpa's life should be a celebration. I know grandpa and I know if he were to exchange words with all of us right now it sound like this...." Wuh ahyou ah cry fuh. I'm ok and happy to see all of your faces. Ahyou Betta Mek sure grandma ok and tek good care of she". My response to you grandpa...I know no matter where you will be that will always be your concern and I promise to be the man you raised me to be and to always take care of grandma in every way......as long as she promises to return my phone calls! ;) I love you grandpa and I thank you so much for all the love, passion, wisdom, strength and fight that you instilled in me making me the man I am today. From the very first day I met you, I could tell that you were a loving and kindhearted person. I enjoyed listening to your life stories from Guyana to New York. Even though I'm pretty sure I heard them all a few times, I listened without interrupting because I could see how much joy it brought you. I miss your smile and hearing your laughter. Every phone call or greeting was "hi babe" or "Hello granddaughter" and always ended with "love you babe". Even though I only met you a couple years ago, I have happy memories with you that will last a lifetime and I will always cherish them. The time we spent together talking, laughing and dancing at Aunty's house will always be some of my most treasured moments as a family. Especially on those mornings we all slept over and you'd ask me to fry your egg, butter your bread and make your tea. Thank you for loving me and the boys as much as you did and taking us in with open arms. I thank God for the time I was blessed to have you in my life. Grandpa, I love you and promise to tell our children about the wonderful man their grandpa was.

Lal I miss hearing your voice on the answering machine "sharda dis ah yuh dad bin call fuh talk to yuh love you" and when we are going home you would say call when you reach home and boy if we get home and did not call in about 5 mins the phone will ring and he would say how came ayo nah call meh and ending his calls or saying good byes with "I love you", how I miss hearing those words from you.  

Mom miss you very much, she knows that you are watching down on her and she remember stories of when you both get engaged.

Dad we talk about you every day, you are missed every single day. It hurts really bad just thinking that we will never see that handsome face or hear your laughter or see that beautiful smile of yours, but all those images will remain alive in our hearts forever dad.

We love you so much dad, you are our angel looking down upon us.  You will always be our "Silver Fox" miss you dearly.

I had some really good memories with grandpa. Ever since elementary school he always made it a chore for himself to make sure I had freshly baked chicken nuggets and french fries. Then often we would play cricket in the driveway. He would only bowl because I always wanted to bat. "Papi, nah hit am too hard, you guh hit dem cyar", he would always say, I never listened. He would give the best massages. His hands were frail but boy could he really "mash" my feet. I always said I wanted to learn how he did it but I never could. He was always such a happy person, always finding a way to make me laugh. Even in the hospital, he had the nurses smiling and laughing. His stories about Guyana were endless. He loved talking about his hometown so when we got on the topic, he could talk till his jaw locked. I always liked to listen to his stories because it was something that meant a lot to him. So many great memories I had with gramps and I will cherish them endlessly. Grandpa had a huge influence on my upbringing and really made me the man I am today. I will continue to strive to be the kind of man he was. Happy, intelligent and rich with love. Forever in my heart Gramps. I love you.

Growing up, I was never short of anything in my childhood - I had more toys than I could ever play with, my hot pink poodle piggy bank was always filled with dollar bills and change, and our house was always full of love. Grandpa and Grandma were a huge part of this. Grandpa was always there to give me anything I ever wanted - I'm sure if I had asked for the world, he would have given it to me if he could. 

No one ever lets me forget that Grandpa had to tie two hammocks in his house, solely for me, so that I would stop crying as a baby. If Jonny and I ever got into a fight, guess who would get yelled at? Grandpa would yell at Jonny and tell him to go back home and leave me alone. Every Friday, without fail, just before we left to go back home, he would walk out with his little black wallet and give Nick and I our "allowances," to buy school lunch for the following week. Our summers were spent at Grandma and Grandpa's house, nights spent sitting around Grandpa and Grandma begging them to tell us jumbie stories from Guyana. Every summer, all five grandchildren would be running around causing mayhem, but Grandpa was always the most content when his family was around him.

And as I got older, nothing changed. Grandpa was my biggest motivator, always encouraging me to shoot for the moon and beyond. He was still there to give me things, or do things for me, even when I would ask him not to. I realize that that is what a Grandfather does. And being a Grandfather is what Grandpa did best - us five grandkids could not have asked for a better Grandfather than the one God had blessed us with. 

Gramps, I am so very lucky to have been brought up by you. Your morals, values, and teachings shaped the person I am today. I will miss your voice and your laugh, your smile when you tell a story that has everyone laughing until late in the night. I will miss seeing you comb your hair meticulously, always wanting to be perfectly dressed, asking me to iron your clothes before anyone else's. There's just too much to write about how much we all will miss you, but we know you're still with us, watching over us and protecting us, continuing to guide us. You will always have a special place in my heart that no one can ever take, Gramps. And don't worry - I'll forever be your meat-mouth.

Here are a few memories Junior and I have of Gramps (oh and we can't forget his furbaby great-grandson Snow that he never met in person but ALWAYS asked for): 

Grandpa was always the life of the party. When the music started he was on the dance floor. He would always make sure we were ok and had enough to eat and drink. He would even have a glass of Asti with us. When grandpa knew we were coming over he would make sure he waiting for us in the garage to open the door- Fort Knox as we jokingly called it. He was the first person we always saw, greeting us with that loving smile. Gramps played the lotto without fail every week. Whenever Junior or I would play, we would make sure we called him to get numbers. Every time I came from New York he would make sure grandma cleaned hassa for me. He would take his time and wrap it up securely so that it wouldn't smell up my clothes. Conversations with him were so priceless from the "Hi granddaughter" to the "I love you" at the end.

We will never forget his last words to us- I miss you, love you goodnight.

Grandpa, I will miss our fishing adventures, your famous bull story, and you being the first and last to greet us at the door or on the phone.  The one thing I will miss the most is your "Thank you for calling, I love you son".

Grandpa hated wearing shirts. Most of my memories of him during my childhood consisted of him being shirtless, almost always. He would lay down on the couch and watch TV for hours. I would get bored during the day and sit next to him, playing with his scar that he got from his surgery. He would even let me clean his navel with Q-tips everyday - I'd have a fist full of Q-tips, quietly wiling away time.

I remember, every day after work, Grandpa would buy Wendy's and bring it home for me. Chicken nuggets and sweet 'n sour sauce, that was my meal everyday around 5 o'clock. But I could never remember "Wendy's," I always forgot the name...so instead, I used to ask Gramps if he could by me "nuggets and the red sauce" from "The Lady." He always understood, and would never forget to bring me my nuggets. I was spoiled past rotten.

I have been with you since I was 16 years old. I grew to love you with all my heart, building a beautiful family together. Our lives were filled so much happiness and love. 

For 57 and a half years, you gave me whatever I asked for in life. You would support me in every aspect of our lives. 

Words can't describe how much I miss you. I pray every day for your safe journey and for you to always be happy wherever you are. You are my angel now, who will watch over me.

You have given me 57 years' worth of beautiful memories that will be in my heart forever. My days start happily whenever you visit me in my dreams. I love you dearly.

   My handsome grandfather..I will not say you "were" because you "are" the most loving person one could have the honor of knowing. There is not a morning or evening where you are not on my mind. How could I be sad with all the wonderful memories you left me with. I do miss your evening phone calls, or voice mails while I'm at work 
" girly dis a granpa, call meh on lunch, I wan kno if Jarvis home it's gonna rain over deh muss go straight home (or if i have to travel out of town) and lock up byee love you " and if I didn't call you send grandma to call hour later. Oh you make me laugh, even in the hospital wanting to talk all night and when the nurse comes in you would pretend sleep so she can hurry and leave.My most fondest memory of you is when you start dancing with your great grandkids (you love to dance). What I will miss most on weekends is you and grandma arguing and playing cards that you were cheating (how you got your nick name " cheata from Jarvis) 
    Thank  you grandpa for being there for my brother and in our early childhood ..And then onto your great grandchildren who can share all their great memories with your future great grandchildren proudly.
    You are the first man I ever gave my heart to and will always be the greatest grandfather.Thank you for memories that will make me smile and laugh forever.

My gramps was the greatest. He loves us so much and always made sure we had anything we wanted even in the hospital making sure he left Mcdonalds money for my sister Jules and I. I will hold this forever gramps i love you so much and promise I will make sure to continue to make you proud and continue my everday calls before bed. Love you to the moon alice.

My loving Dabbit, you were such a loving and caring person, every time I think of you I remember the good times we had in Richmond Hill, every weekend we used to come over and have a good time with you.

I love you and when I want to be with you and I will go to the beach (where we spread your ashes) and spend some time with you.

Grandpa was the best grandpa in the whole world!

Grandpa, we never thought you would be such a dog-loving person, but from the day we brought Maya Devi home (on your birthday, too, 2014), you made Maya a large part of your world. You were so loving, caring, and concerned about Maya's well-being, always asking for her whenever you called. Maya misses you more than you can imagine, and we're sure she is extremely grateful to have had you as a grandpa. With all her love, Maya Devi Boodram, your furry, white, blue-eyed granddaughter.

Lyman "Pops" Terbenie was like a father to me.  I met him and his wife Dollie in 1990.  They took me in as one of their daughter.  I am going to really miss you.  He was a hard working man and made sure his family didn't want for nothing.  Also he had a heart of gold and would give you his shirt off his back. Farewell!!
