Laveta Martin

She was born in Long Beach, CA on February 17, 1947 to Ellis and Doris Younger. She grew up in Lakewood, CA. During her younger years she established a great joy of music. She played the viola and was the youngest member of the Long Beach Orchestra. She graduated from Lakewood High School in 1965. Through this love of music she met her first husband, George Heibel. They married in 1969 and had their son, John in 1970. She suddenly lost her husband in 1974. After being set up through mutual friends, Laveta married Ralph Martin on November 22,1975. They were married for 46 years. They lived and raised their family in Los Alamitos, CA. While raising her family, she was a wonderful home maker and took great care of her family. In 1987 she also went back to school and received her Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Long Beach State. She worked part time as an accountant and also a long term substitute teacher. In 1997, she and Ralph retired to Burnet, TX where they enjoyed the country life for 18 years. In 2015, they moved to Temple Terrace, FL. Laveta was a faithful member of several congregations throughout her life, most recently, University church of Christ in Tampa, FL. At these congregations she made many special friendships and enjoyed developing curriculum for children's classes, teaching and having people in her home.

Laveta is survived by her husband, Ralph Martin of Temple Terrace, FL; son, John Martin (Su Oh) of La Crescenta, CA; daughter, Kristi (Michael) Benson of Temple Terrace, FL; and grandchildren, Miles, Katie, Ava, Connor, Corey and Caden. She is also survived by her sister, Karen (Mike) Davis of La Pine, OR. Laveta was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Neil and Denny Younger.

A celebration of life for Laveta will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 2:00 PM at University church of Christ, 14314 Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33613.
