Born July 6, 1956, Mark grew up in Sarasota, Florida, where his love of sports and the water began early. He played several sports throughout high school and remained a devoted Florida State University fan. He could almost always be found watching FSU football rather than the NFL.
Mark proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, a chapter of his journey he carried with him throughout the years. He will be laid to rest with honor at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
Mark was a private man who valued a small circle and genuine relationships. He showed people he cared through the little things, checking in, lending a hand when he could, making sure others were taken care of, and giving generously, often beyond what he had to give.
Mark was a father to Vanessa, Mark, and James, and a grandfather to Elianna, Ava, Case, Zeke, Chris, and Austin. He also welcomed Vanessa’s husband, Danny, like a son. Danny was there for Mark in countless ways and their relationship became a meaningful part of Mark’s later years.
Some of Mark’s favorite memories came from watching his sons play little league and looking back on those years with a smile. No one could play ball as good as them in his book.
Among all of Mark’s relationships, the bond he shared with his daughter, Vanessa, was especially profound. She was his baby girl, and no matter how many years passed, that place in his life never changed. Their connection was woven into countless conversations, everyday moments, laughter, and an understanding that often needed no words. Theirs was a bond that will continue to shape Vanessa for the rest of her life.
Mark’s grandchildren brought him tremendous joy. To them, he was “Pop Pop,” and he cherished watching them grow and being part of their lives. The memories they made with him will remain with them as they carry his influence into their own futures.
We find comfort knowing Mark’s earthly journey was not the end of his story. We trust that he is now in the presence of Jesus, free from pain, at peace, and home. We hold to the promise that through Jesus Christ, death is not the end, but the beginning of eternal life.
Mark will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and carried with us in the memories and moments that remain.
