Mary Eileen Loome

Of Tampa, FL passed away on Friday October 8, 2021 peacefully with her sons by her side. She is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, John and her son Mark as well as her parents Mary and Dr. Lawrence B. McCaleb. She is survived by her 3 sons, Dr. John (Heather), Kevin (Lisa), and Brian; and five grandchildren whom she adored, Jack, Olivia, Henry, Devin, and Harrison. She is also survived by her sister Kathy McCaleb Boland and brother Michael McCaleb, and predeceased by brothers Jack McCaleb and Richie McCaleb.

Eileen attended Blessed Sacrament School where she famously skipped the second grade. She went on to Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School (Class of 1960) where she was a standout athlete, top of the class student, and Gold Team captain and then graduated from Trinity College (DC) in 1964.

After many moves as the wife of a FBI agent, the family settled in Rockville, MD where Eileen focused on raising her 3 boys by serving as math tutor extraordinaire and cheerleader at all sporting events. She also worked as a teacher and for the Fund for Government Investors in Bethesda.

One last move in 1991 took her to Tampa, FL where Eileen and John settled. She enjoyed the role of grandmother, affectionately known as “Maw” to her 5 grandchildren. Her athletic prowess continued with a love of golf as it was reported that she had 2 holes in one over the years. She was extremely fond of her friends and acquaintances from Tampa Palms Country Club and the local neighborhood.

Eileen was a kind and loving soul who will be missed by all that knew her. She was easy-going and could converse and make friends with about anyone. She truly loved people.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday October 19, 2021 at 11 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church in Washington, DC. The family will receive visitors one hour before at 10 AM at the church. Private interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School (visi.org).
