Mike proudly served 25 years in the US Airforce. He was a brave, kind, and gentle soul. He had a way of making people feel welcome, valued, and cared for. Whether he was spending time with family, sharing stories around a bonfire, or simply enjoying the outdoors, Mike found joy in life's simple pleasures and in the people he loved most.
He was a devoted fan of the Minnesota Vikings and loved sports of all kinds. He shared that passion through years of coaching and umpiring, helping guide and encourage countless young athletes. Mike also held a deep respect and appreciation for the military and was proud to support those who served.
Anyone who knew Mike knew about the things that made him uniquely him: his beloved booger-green Monte Carlo, his fondness for cows, his love of pickles, hot dogs piled high with sauerkraut, and a Mountain Dew. He enjoyed gathering around bonfires, spending time outdoors, and insisting he wasn't sleeping—just "resting his eyes."
Mike leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family. His gentle spirit and the memories he created with those he loved will be cherished forever.
Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that the lessons he taught, the love he shared, and the joy he brought to others will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Mahowald, and his sister, Kelly Poulton.
Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Mary C. Mahowald; his son, Joey Mahowald (Amber); his daughter, Krystan Lozan (Lance); his mother, Kathleen Mahowald; his brother, Matt Mahowald; his sisters, Kalinda Smith (Chuck), Kim Hansen (Ronnie), and Korin Flores (Vince); and his grandchildren, Triston, Chase, Olivia, Reese, Makenna, and Layla.
