It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Patricia "Pat" Ray Curtis, who passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the age of 90. Pat will be remembered for her kindness, her quiet strength, and her unwavering devotion to those she loved.
Beloved wife of the late Thomas D. Curtis, loving mother of Sydney Curtis and Tom Curtis, and proud grandmother of Lily Campagna and May Campagna. She was a caring sister-in-law to Madonna Fowler, and to the late Libby Coombs and Don Coombs, and a devoted lifelong friend to many. Pat’s number one priority was always her family and friends no matter what was going on in life.
Pat was born in Mason City, Iowa, to William R. English and Nola Gerlach, and grew up in Marion, Indiana. She attended Ball State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in education and began a rewarding career teaching middle and high school students.
Pat met her husband, Tom, in Indiana, and together they built a life filled with family, friendship, and adventure. Their journey took them from California to Indiana, then to Tucson, Arizona—one of their favorite places—where they welcomed their daughter and son. Later moves for Tom’s work as a professor of economics brought them to Oklahoma and finally to Tampa, Florida.
A devoted mother, Pat dedicated herself to raising her children while also giving back to her community through volunteering at her children’s schools, local hospitals, and with Meals on Wheels. In 1984, Pat continued her education and earned her Master’s Degree from the University of South Florida, where she went on to work as a career guidance counselor, helping students discover their paths in life.
She was a social and active person who loved tennis, golf, bridge, yoga, and travel. Pat and Tom traveled widely throughout the U.S. and Europe, but she especially cherished time visiting friends and relatives in Indiana and spending winters in Tubac, Arizona, golfing and enjoying the desert landscapes she loved.
Nothing made Pat happier than spending time with her family—especially her grandchildren. She treasured every visit, from days at Dinosaur World and the Lowry Park Zoo to the family’s annual vacation at the Don CeSar, one of her favorite traditions, where she could have everyone together.
Pat’s faith was a steady source of strength throughout her life, and she approached each day with gratitude and grace.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9715 N. 56th Street, Temple Terrace, FL 33617, on Friday, October 24th, at 11:00 a.m.
A reception will follow at the Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club, 200 Inverness Ave, Temple Terrace, FL 33617.
