

Bonnie McCoy Osburn was born December 29, 1921. She was one of nine children born to James Marion and Minnie Lee (Harris) McCoy. She was the seventh child and fourth girl. She hated the expression “This is Bonnie Merle, our baby girl.” The family lived near Eddy, Texas. Bonnie attended grade school at Blevins and graduated from Bruceville-Eddy High School in 1938. She received an Associate Degree in Business from John Tarleton Agricultural College in 1940. She worked as a stenographer at Kelly Air Force Base during World War II until she married Sherman Leo Osburn in 1948. Her husband preceded her in death in 1980. She began working at Sears in 1967 in San Antonio until her retirement in 1984 when she moved to Temple. Bonnie was a Worthy Matron (presiding officer) of the Vashti Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1990. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Temple. She was also a member of the Friendship Extension Homemakers Club, serving as president for two years. She has resided at Garden Estates Retirement Community since 1999. She is also preceded in death by step-son David Osburn. She is survived by sister Hazel McCoy Dooley of San Angelo, step-son Danny Osburn of Arlington, granddaughters Angie, Terri and Randi, several great grand children and great great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.
