

Burton W. Folsom, Sr., died July 17, 2012 in Temple, Texas and is survived by his beloved wife and bridge partner Dell. He was a member of Fisher Bible Study Class of First Baptist Church, Temple, Texas.
His surviving children and step-children include Burton Folsom, Jr., Sally Eveland, Thomas Folsom, Sharon Currans, and Wade Ford.
Mr. Folsom was born March 21, 1925, in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he graduated from Lincoln high school in 1942, and seven years later from the University of Nebraska. During World War II, he served with the First Division, U.S. Army in Europe, receiving a Purple Heart and earning Bronze Battle Star, Combat Medics Badge and three campaign battle stars. By the end of his tour of duty, he was a Staff Sergeant in charge of a Battalion Aide Station in Nuremberg, Germany.
Burt Folsom succeeded his grandfather, his father and his brother as C.E.O. of the Nebraska Central Building and Loan Association of Lincoln, which was merged prior to his moving to Texas in 1982. His first wife, Margaret Reese Folsom, to whom he was married for fifty years, preceded him in death in 1996.
While living in Lincoln, Mr. Folsom was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church which he served as Usher, Deacon, Elder, Clerk of Session and Foundation President. He also served as Presidents of the Executive Club of Lincoln, the Country Club of Lincoln and 25+ years as a Trustee of the University of Nebraska Foundation.
Burt was a distinguished member of Beta Theta Pi. He served his Fraternity as a Chapter Advisor, District Chief, General Treasurer, General Secretary and President, with service as a Trustee in four separate decades while attending more than thirty Annual Conventions. In 1994 he was presented The Oxford Cup, Beta’s highest honor. Burt was further recognized with the Shephardson Award for distinguished service at the Fraternity's 163rd Convention in August, 2002.
Inurnment will be at a later date at our nation's newest military cemetery known as Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery on land first acquired to be part of Fort Hood. Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Temple, TX is in charge of the arrangements.
