

Danny Winston Reed left this world Tuesday, April 19, 2011 to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born on August 1, 1937 to William Webb and Zerne Hagler Reed in Temple, Texas. He was a sixth generation Texan with his ancestors being the first settlers in Bell County, Texas in 1833. The head of the Texas Reed Clan was Michael and Martha Burnett Reed who moved to Texas with the Robertson Colony from Tennessee. Before coming to Tennessee and Louisiana he fought in the War of 1812 in the U.S. Navy.
He graduated from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1955. Danny served in the US Navy from 1956 until 1959 as an Aviation Machinist Mate. After being discharged from the Navy he settled down in the Dallas, Texas area where his two sons Michael and Joey were born. He received his college degrees while working full time and graduated from El Centro College, Dallas, Texas in 1969 with an AA degree, Dallas Baptist College in 1971 with a BS degree, and Houston Baptist University in 1983 with a MBA degree.
He worked as a draftsman for many years for Lake Engineering Company in Dallas, Texas. He worked as assistant manager for a residential homebuilder, as a college instructor at Henderson County Jr College in Athens, Texas, 1973 –1974, and as a designer for several petrochemical companies in the Dallas and Houston areas. He spent four assignments of one year or more, working for Gulf Interstate Engineering Company (GIE) in the Pipeline Engineering and Construction industry in Saudi Arabia, North Yemen and Sumatra, Indonesia. He worked for GIE for 15 years. Danny also worked for BFI – Environmental Tank Management as District Operation Manager from 1988 to 1990. He then was hired by 3D Environmental in Houston as Vice President for underground fuel tank remediation and environmental site assessments until 1993. Between 1990 and 1996 Danny worked for SAIC, Raston, Virginia and Odgen Environmental, Fairfax, Virginia as project manager for super fund site remediation and site manager for several U. S. Air force base closures. His last assignment before he retired in 2002 was Manager of Quality Assurance for GIE.
Danny spent most of his retirement time working for the church and trying to bring others to Christ. He was a faithful member of the Current A Christian Church in Katy, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years Betty Laster Reed, his two sons, Joey Reed and wife Paula of Tehachapi, California, and Michael Reed and wife Becky of Burleson, Texas, his step-son Terry Ponder and wife Connie of Houston, Texas, his brother Henderson “Mutt” Reed and wife Nancy of San Antonio, his sister Allene Reed Stoddert and husband Robert W.B. Stoddert of Smithfield, Virginia, his Aunt Wanda Chandler of Temple, Texas, his Uncle John Hagler and wife Dixie of Little River Academy, TX, and his Uncle Earl Dean Reed and wife Laura of Rogers, Texas. He also leaves behind four grandsons, two granddaughters, and one great-grand daughter.
His father, mother and sister, Patricia Reed Wolfe, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be Friday, April 22, 2011, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.at the Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Temple, Texas. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home with Brother Robert Matson will officiating. Burial will follow at the Reed Family Cemetery on Reed Cemetery Road, 5 miles southeast of Rogers, Texas.
Memorial services will be at Current A Christian Church, 26600 Wertheimer Parkway in Katy, Texas on Monday, April 25th at 6p.m. officiated by Pastor Glen Liston.
