

David was born in October of 1946 in Sherman, Texas to Alton J. and Ellen Jane (Wieder) Ligon. He was a graduate of Lanier High in Austin, Texas in 1964 and then attended both Abilene Christian College and Texas State University. He left school to proudly serve his country in the US Navy, serving an in-country tour of Vietnam as a Seabee in 1967. Upon his release from active duty, he remained in the US Naval Reserve for several more years. David married Cheryl Darlene (Sexton) Ligon in May of 1968 in Austin, Texas.
David and Cheryl were blessed with two children, Debra and Daryl. David coached his children’s teams in both softball and baseball and supported them in all of their sports and educational endeavors. He worked for several Texas Utility Power Plants until his retirement.
David was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Carol Jean Ligon. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cheryl Darlene. He is also survived by his daughter, Debra (Kristie) Malone of Ohio; his son, Dr. Daryl (Bethany) Ligon of Arizona; Aunt, Ruby Ligon; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and grand-dogs.
David had a kind and gentle spirit; loved his family, reading, all things history, football and working in his workshop. He was loved deeply by his family and is greatly missed.
