Donald Wayne Bennett

Don was born in Rogers, Texas on August 30, 1947 to Otis and Jenny Salach Bennett. He served honorably in the US Army from 1966-1969 including a tour in Vietnam. He later worked as a mechanic in various capacities from automotive to heavy equipment. Don also worked repairing golf carts and small engines. He later worked for Autozone driving a commercial delivery route before retiring.

Don is survived by his mother Jenny of Glen Rose, wife Cheryl of Temple, son Jerry and his wife Joyce Bennett of Hutto, daughter Jennifer and her husband Matt Bierds of Bellville, and his grandson Cole Bierds. He is also survived by his sisters Beverly Millsap of Glen Rose and Helen Daughtry, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Don’s passion in recent years was his “babies”, dogs adopted from the City of Temple Animal Shelter. They will miss him most of all. The family directs any memorials to: The City of Temple Animal Shelter -601 Mama Dog Lane, Temple, Texas 76504 or to APAC- PO Box 2351, Temple, Texas 76505.
