

Donald Myers Foster, PhD, entered the presence of his loving Savior on July 5, 2022, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple, TX. Don was born in Mayersville, MS, as the second of eight children on March 21, 1938. His education included graduating from Belzoni HS, MS Delta Junior College, Delta State University, and obtaining a PhD in Biochemistry from University of Houston. Further training included fellowships at the University of Michigan and Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
In 1971 he started his career in research at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, as well as being on faculty at the University of Minnesota. After three years he transferred to the VA Hospital in Temple, TX. Several years later he went to work at NASA in Clear Lake, TX, for nearly two years and was thrilled to be present for a space shuttle lift off at Cape Canaveral. Don then served as the Chairman of the Chemistry Department at the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in Belton, TX, for two years. He returned to the VA Hospital in Temple and served there until his retirement, after which, he volunteered in the VA Research Department. During his career he published multiple articles and presented at various conferences. Don maintained and enjoyed his membership in the American Chemical Society.
Don is best known as a man who loved God, the Bible, and his family. He also loved memorizing scripture and gospel music. He was a faithful member and served in various capacities, first at Bethel Assembly of God Church (Temple) and then at First United Methodist Church (Temple).
Don is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years Barbara Mobley Foster and adult children Donna Jo Powell and Ivan (Kari) Foster. Very dear to his heart were his grandchildren: Jeff (Kirstyn) Powell, Jenna (Johnathan) Davis, Ashton (Kelsey) Foster, Jerrod Powell, Jonathon Powell, and Eva Foster; along with great-grandchildren: Jeremy, Claire, Ryker, Axle, Austin, Levi, and Eleanor. He is also survived by siblings June Corley, Carl (Judy) Foster, Becky Bender, Elaine Graves, and David (Sarah) Foster. He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Annie Laurie Foster and two sisters Barbara Sue Windham and Marion Foster.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 15th from 6-8 pm at Crawford Bowers in Temple, TX. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 16th at 2 pm at First United Methodist Church, Temple, TX. A reception will follow the service in the Family Life Center.
