Biography

Donna Faye Wimberley Roberts, age 84, of Temple, TX passed away on March 8, 2018. Donna was born on October 27, 1933 in Jonesboro, AR, the youngest of five girls. She grew up mainly in Memphis, TN and attended Central High School. While living in Memphis she married Holly Joe Roberts on September 16, 1950. Donna and Holly were married for 67 years. Donna was a navy wife for 18 years, during which time they had 5 children. Often she cared for all 5 children while Holly was out to sea for long periods of time. She was very independent and pragmatic. When financial times were tough she developed a recipe, that is loved by her children and grandchildren, called spaghetti and cheese soup. No matter what times were like she made sure everyone was cared for and had everything that they needed.

Our mother was a dedicated and hard worker. After Holly retired from the Navy she started working at the Safeway Grocery chain and moved up in management to become the first woman in her region to participate in the management program. Though many fought to see her fail, she achieved her goal, and retired from Safeway in 1987.

Following her retirement, she was able to spend time caring for her youngest grandchildren. Something that was the love of her heart, babies!! She loved playing with her grandchildren. Making them dress up clothes, hosting sleep overs and made tents inside and outside the house for them to play in. They even had 2 turtles in the yard that would come up to be fed each day, and her youngest grandson named them "bite you".

Donna and Holly moved to Temple, TX in 2001 to be close to their children. Together they have 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was very proud of her family and maintained a close relationship with all of her children and grandchildren. She was outspoken and had a good sense of humor. Things that she loved were, reading and gardening. We as a family have many memories of the love and time she put into intricate cross stitch pictures and stockings that she made for us. Along with Holly, they made many works of art in stained glass for each of us.

Our mother will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her!!!!
