

Durel Wayne Almond was born November 26th, 1953 in Gurdon, Arkansas to Carlie Almond and Thelma Carroll. He had four children that he adopted when he married Mary Sue Almond; Paula Smith, Troy Smith, Donna Smith, and Athena Almond. He is preceded in death by his first wife Mary Sue Almond, his daughters Paula and Donna Smith, and his oldest brother Martin Almond. He remarried on December 9th, 2022 to Mary Alice Almond who he spent the rest of his life with and loved dearly. He served in the United States Army during the Gulf War and retired from service in 1994. Wayne also enjoyed riding his motorcycles whenever he was able to. This led him to join the Little River Freedom Fellowship Biker Church. He always would brag about his Louisiana Heritage and loved his Cajun cuisine. Wayne also enjoyed his dirt track racing both at the Texas Thunder Speedway and the Heart of Texas Speedway where he worked as an infield announcer and flag man. He is survived by his widow Mary Alice Almond, his daughter Athena Almond, his grandsons Donald Smith and Nolan Hamilton, his granddaughter Kristy Smith, his brother Otis Almond, his sister-in-law Dee Almond, and his son Troy Smith. He left behind a lot of vivid memories and love. His sunset of February 8th, 2025 was a homecoming so he could reunite with all the loved ones that came before.
