James David Whitaker Jr., affectionately known as Manny by most, departed this life suddenly on July 21, 2024. Born on May 21, 1965, in Baltimore, MD, James was the beloved son of the late James Whitaker Sr. and Geraldine E. Diggs.
As a young man, his mother lovingly called him Manning. He developed a deep passion for the outdoors, especially enjoying hunting, fishing, and camping.
James received his formal education from Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Northwestern High School. Early on, Manny showcased his entrepreneurial spirit, which he honed playing his sister in Monopoly after school everyday. At a young age, this competitive spirit would aid him in a career in car sales and repairs, and business sense he would later pass on to his children. He would eventually obtain his CDL license, which allowed him to travel all over the country. James worked at Werner Enterprises until his passing.
On November 21, 1999, James met Beverly, and this relationship would be the start of a profound lifestyle change. The two would become the deepest love of each other’s lives and were married on September 25, 2004. From this union, they were blessed with two children, Geraldine and Nicholas. James was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather, and he took great joy in spending time and cooking with his family.
James leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Beverly Whitaker; his mother, Geraldine E. Diggs; his sister, Keesha Diggs Bond (Vincent); his sons, Nicholas, Brandon (Rachel), and Jordan; his daughters, Geraldine and Jasmine; his grandchildren, Kennadi, Mason, and Morgan; and his great-grandchild, Karter. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
James’s sudden departure leaves a deep void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. James was a hardworking and very loving man who had a big heart for those he loved. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation for James will be held Monday, July 29, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers are Nicholas Whitaker, Brandon Caron, James Lindsay, James Vick, Vincent Bond, Vincent Bond II, Alex Diggs and Eric Diggs.
