Joe Broadway, age 80, passed away April 15 at his home in Temple. A visitation is set for Wednesday, April 17, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Crawford-Bowers of Temple. Services for Joe will be held Thursday, April 18, at 10:00 am at Crawford-Bowers with burial to follow at Moffat Cemetery.
Joe was born January 4, 1933 to W.M. and Pauline (Hamacher) Broadway in Quitman, Mississippi. He was raised in Winnsboro, Louisiana, graduated from Louisiana Baptist College, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Later in life, Joe received his doctorate degree in theology as well as his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation. In 1968 Joe started his insurance career with Texas Farm Bureau, leaving in 1981 to form his own company, Insurance and Financial Services (IFS). Joe was ordained a Southern Baptist Minister in 1952 at the age of 19. He was a pastor of various churches in Louisiana, then Texas during his ministerial career of 61 years. He was a former President of the Board of Trustees at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and lived in the Temple community for 37 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jack Broadway, and two sisters Frances Fore, and Virginia Broadway.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Johnnie (Cloud) Broadway, two sons David Broadway of Valley Mills and Daniel Broadway (wife Melissa) of Harlingen, as well as 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
