John William Burchard passed into eternity Friday, October 5. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mina Ridenour Burchard along with his two daughters, Rebecca Burchard Lusk and Barbara Burchard Farris, granddaughters Karen Lusk Caballero, Kristy Lusk Jones, Amanda Farris Zinger, and Lindsay Farris Allmand, and great-grandchildren Nathan Caballero, Emma Caballero, Lila Devenport, and Addyson White. He was preceded in death by his son, John William Burchard II.
John worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 30 years. During this time, he was also active in the Army Reserves, retiring with 31 years of service to his country. He loved to travel and was proud to have visited all 50 states, along with Canada and Mexico. After retiring from government service, he moved from Austin to fulfill his lifelong dream of ranching and was able to enjoy the rural lifestyle near Florence for 30 years. He was on the board for Central Texas Children's home for a number of years and was also an active member of the church of Christ in Austin and Killeen. He enjoyed organizing and cooking for large family get-togethers and his presence will be greatly missed. He loved a good practical joke and will be remembered as the guy who hid the plastic roach in just about every food dish imaginable!
Donations may be made to Sunny Glen Children's Home (San Benito, TX) in lieu of flowers.
