

John Allen “Jay” Havens, Jr. passed into Heaven on October 28, 2014. John was born in Dickens County, Texas, November 29, 1926. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bonnie Morris Havens. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Yandell Havens, his brother Richard Havens of Abernathy, his children and their spouses Thomas and Gloria Havens of Little Rock, Alana and Bruce Anderson of Belton, and Alicia and Dan Curry of Arlington, eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, the last of whom was born shortly before John’s passing. John graduated from Roaring Springs High School and served in WWII. He resided in Quanah, Texas for many years and moved to Lubbock in 1966. He is honored for following his Christian principles and for treating others with care and respect. Friends and family are invited to visit Thursday, October 30, from 5:30 to 7:30 at Resthaven Funeral Home. John’s life will be celebrated Friday, October 31 in a brief burial at 1:00 PM at Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM at Oakwood Baptist Church in Lubbock.
