On Saturday, November 23, 2019, Lois Jane “Janie” Huffman, passed away at the age of 71. Janie was born November 11, 1948, to Edward and Muriel Foster in Abilene, Texas. Janie attended Abilene Cooper High School before attending the University of Texas at Arlington, graduating with a degree in psychology. In 1972, she married Nelson J “Huff” Huffman on October 21st, one month from first meeting one another. Together they raised three boys and two girls, who have now given them eleven grandchildren, making them Grammy and Granddaddy. Janie spent over 25 years teaching in middle school and high school in Central Texas. Since retiring in 2009, she enjoyed sewing/quilting, reading, participating in book clubs, hiking, walking, and volunteering in the community. As an active member of Bethel Church, Janie was involved in numerous ministries where she made many sweet friends and enduring relationships. Yet, her biggest enjoyment was her family, especially those eleven grandkids. Janie is preceded in death by her father, Edward, and her mother, Muriel. She is survived by her husband of 47 years Nelson J; their five children, Nelson S, Casey, JJ, Erin and Nelson B; her brother Edward; her sister Vicky; her eleven grandchildren and numerous other close relatives and good friends. We know Janie was loved by so many and we are thankful for the love and support of all those who have called, visited, or sent condolences. A visitation for Janie will be held Saturday, November 30, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Church, Temple, Texas. All the Shotwell Cousins have been so blessed to have Janie as one of us. I am named after Janie's Mother, Muriel Shotwell Foster. Aunt Muriel was so very proud of her three children. They all excelled in life, in school, got an education, but most of all Jane excelled in being a loving wife in Motherhood and Grandmotherhood. What a Legacy! Love to all the Huffman Family.
We will miss you Janie.
Love, Glenda Muriel

Janie had such a sweet and outgoing personality and she was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed. She was such a joy to be around and when we saw each other mostly at grandchildren birthdays, we would spend time catching up, she would talk about the book club she was in or about what bible study devotional she was taking and mostly about our grandchildren. She showed love and concern for everyone and was truly a blessing to so many people, Janie you will be greatly missed.

Our heartfelt condolences and prayers for peace and comfort are with all the family during this difficult time.

Sweet cousin Janie - such a beautiful lady with a great sense of humor.

She was always interested in everyone and their lives. I’m so happy I got to spend much of the last family reunion visiting with her.

Please know our family is thinking of Nelson, the kids and grands, as well as all the Fosters in your overwhelming loss.

We will miss her so....

We remember the first words from Janie at the adoption of our 4 children. I’m going from being the Grammy of 6 to 10, now 11. A beautiful smile on her face. She was so happy and full of joy. We loved her so much for many reasons. Most of all we loved her for loving us. We as many were very blessed to have had her in our lives. We love you Grammy!!

My times with Janie weren't many, but whenever I was able to attend a Shotwell family reunion, Janie was one of those that I truly looked forward to visiting with. She exuded love, humor and care for each person and she always made you feel like you were the most important person around. She was truly a bright light and the kind of person that I would like to be. I know she will be missed greatly by her sweet family. The Huffmans, Fosters and all those who loved her dearly will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Our hearts are broken. Janie was a wonderful mother in law and grandmother. She was always ready to go for a hike, play cards, craft, or bake with her granddaughter. Her love for family was endless. We will miss her immensely. Much love to all her friends and family.
