Margie was born December 12, 1929 at the original Scott and White hospital in Temple when her parents, Fred and Dora Wolf, lived close to Bartlett. She was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Bartlett by her grandfather, Rev. Theodore Bogisch. Her childhood was shaped by The Great Depression. Her electrician father often had to leave home for weeks at a time to find work and the family made several moves as he found different jobs. She attended Reagan Junior High in Temple and was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Temple. Her confirmation verse was Romans 8:28: "All things work together for good to them that love God". After the family moved to Cuero, she graduated from Cuero High School in 1947. She attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin where she met her future husband, graduating in 1951. Later she completed extra coursework to get her teaching certificate.
Leroy and Margie Fuhrmann were married October 1, 1950. After teaching 2nd grade in Victoria for two years, she took off several years to raise her three daughters. Margie began teaching school again in Fort Worth, this time Kindergarten. She continued to teach when the family moved to Temple. While at Immanuel Lutheran School, she also created inspirational bulletin boards for the church.
Margie loved to bake and always had an extra container of cookies in the freezer to share. She enjoyed sewing clothes for her daughters, her grandchildren, and their dolls. She was always known for taking pictures, including standing on top of the car to get a good angle. Later in life, she enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and encouraged them to be creative with art projects. After losing a special family member, she began an angel collection. Eventually her home became filled with angels.
The Fuhrmann family faithfully went to church every week and attended Sunday School. Margie taught Sunday School for many years and led Sunday School openings. She was never shy about sharing her faith with her family and to others. Even at Cornerstone Gardens, she would share her faith with the staff.
Margie will be waiting for the family she had to leave behind: her daughter Susan Powell and husband Greg of Florence; her daughter Rhonda Fuhrmann of Bryan; and her daughter Sheila Chilton and husband Bob of Little Elm. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and their spouses; 11 great-grandchildren; her cousin Harold Bogisch and his family of Seguin; her brother-in-law M.J. Dittmar, 4 nieces, and 1 nephew of Fredericksburg.
Donations may be made to Texas Lutheran University Development Office, 1000 W. Court, Seguin, TX 78155.
