Mary Alice Dickson Allen

On Friday, January 27, 2012, Mary Alice Allen left this earth with the same grace and dignity that she showed throughout her lifetime, taking care of those she loved until the very end. She was 91. Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Bellwood Memorial Park. The family will have a time of visitation from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on February 1st at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Temple. Mrs. Allen had recently resided at Brodie Ranch, an Austin Care Center. Born in Temple, Texas on November 9, 1920 to Clinton Calvin Dickson Sr. and Mary Ellen (Clements) Dickson, Mary Alice was the second of three children. She attended Temple Junior College and made a career, first with the Santa Fe Railroad, and finally with the Santa Fe Hospital where she was Administrative Secretary and also Treasurer of the Santa Fe Hospital Board of Trustees. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Allen her sister, Jewel C. Black, of Plainview, and her grandson, Benjamin Allen Taylor. She is survived by two daughters, Martha Allen of Pipe Creek and Dr. Kate Allen of Austin; a son, David Allen of Lexington; a brother, Clinton Calvin Dickson Jr. of Temple; three grandchildren: Scott Anthony Sharp, Jason Douglas Garriott, and Emily Allen Taylor; and seven great grandchildren: Thomas Scott Sharp, Jamie Christine Sharp, Chase Taylor Sharp, Ty Cristian Sharp, Sasha Aliana Sharp, Jameson John Garriott, and Jackson Grant Garriott. Mary Allen was a mentor to me during my many years of working at Santa Fe Memorial Hospital. She helped mold me into the employee I am today. God bless your family during this time of loss. Mary was truly a special person and I am better person for having her as a mentor.
