

She began school in Salem near Cameron, moved to Troy and later to Temple where her family began attending the First Church of the Nazarene. She was baptized and became a member in 1935 as was her family also. They temporarily moved to Rosebud, due to the depression era. Maurine graduated from Rosebud High School in 1940 as senior class favorite then moved back to Temple where she took her first job as secretary typist at the City of Temple Water Department. She soon met Homer while visiting with his cousin. Shortly afterwards, he was drafted into US Army and stationed in California at Camp Roberts. She traveled by train to see him and they became engaged. They were married at First Church of the Nazarene in Temple on April 18, 1943. She retired as a teller at Temple National Bank where she worked from June 1965 to 1986. She was a very loving mother and loved Homer and her family greatly. She was the church secretary, Sunday school teacher, choir member and was always there, as they say “If the door was open she was there”.
She was preceded in death by her husband Homer Elliott and son, Paul Elliott, and son-in-law Johnny Martin.
She is survived by her son, Ron Elliott and wife Sue of Temple, daughter, Becky Martin of Temple, daughter-in-law, Cindy Elliott of San Antonio, 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Maurine will be held Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Church of the Nazarene, Temple, TX, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
