Rickey Dean “Rick” Fisher, age 74, passed away on August 4, 2025, in Temple, Texas. Born on March 14, 1951, in Lamesa, Texas, Rick was raised in Odessa, where he spent his formative years riding motorcycles and chasing adventure.
From a young age, Rick demonstrated a strong work ethic and a knack for hands-on skills. While attending Odessa High School, he worked various oilfield jobs and aspired to follow in the footsteps of his father as a driller. When the oil industry experienced a downturn, Rick transitioned into electrical service and construction under the guidance of his father-in-law. It was during this time that he earned the nickname “worm” from his co-workers—a badge of honor that marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
Rick discovered his true calling in electrical work. Through dedication and perseverance, he rose through the ranks to become a Master Electrician and eventually opened his own business. His career was built on hard work and integrity—qualities that defined him throughout his life. In 2015, due to illness, Rick retired and closed his business. Retirement brought with it a new kind of joy: time spent with family and the freedom to pursue the things he loved most.
Rick was always ready to lend a hand to friends and family with their projects. Whether it was building cabinets or fireplaces or fixing just about anything that needed repair, he approached every task with skill and enthusiasm. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in earlier years but found even greater joy later in life spending time with his grandchildren—playing catch, watching them climb trees or dance ballet. He had an uncanny ability to find something fun or meaningful to do at any moment—and it was always better when you were along for the ride.
Rick’s sense of humor was ever-present; he loved to pester those closest to him in good fun. His presence brought laughter wherever he went. He was deeply loved by those who knew him—for his generosity, his spirit of mischief, and above all for being someone you could always count on.
Rick accepted Jesus as his Savior while serving in the Army at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. Though not necessarily a churchgoer, he carried a quiet spirituality throughout his life that guided him through its many chapters.
He is survived by his beloved wife Cathy; son Christopher Creed Fisher and daughter Jaime Fisher; four grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and sister Terri Fisher and her husband Blaine of Louisiana.
Rick is preceded in death by his father Creed Fisher; mother Bobbie Fisher; brother Bobby Fisher; sister Virginia Sue Reeves; and sister Donna Kay Harrington.
Rick’s legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched—with laughter shared around projects big and small, with lessons passed down through generations of family members who watched him build not only homes but also memories that will last forever.
May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A Viewing will be held on August 6, 2025, from 05:00 PM to 07:00 PM at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home 3220 S 31st Street. A Graveside Service will be held on August 7, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Restland Cemetery 2201 Waco St. Services will be performed by Brother Wray Nunn.
