Robbie Jane Bargas

Janie was born on April 27, 1940, in Temple, Texas, where she grew up and in 1977 moved with the family to San Antonio, Texas.

She graduated from Temple High School in 1958 and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Mary Hardin Baylor in 1968. Janie entered teaching at Jefferson Elementary in Temple. She continued her teaching in San Antonio at Holy Spirit Catholic school, (SW ISD), at Southwest Elementary, and (South San Antonio ISD), at Neil Armstrong Elementary. Janie was a dedicated teacher and cared greatly for her students. Upon retirement after 30 years, she began helping her husband Chico at A. Bargas & Associates where she traveled extensively with him, calling on customers and serving as an ambassador. Her thrill was finding small local shops she could shop in and locally owned restaurants. She used to tell her friends there wasn't a town in Texas she hadn't been to or traveled through. After the company became a corporation, she served as an officer as Secretary/Treasurer.

Janie was a woman of faith. She was baptized at First Baptist church in Temple, Texas, when she was 13. She moved her membership to Shearer Hills Baptist church when the family relocated to San Antonio. Janie was involved in helping with the church youth group and served as a counselor with the youth group summer camp. Additionally, Janie was involved in helping prepare meals for Wednesday night church services.

Janie enjoyed spending hours walking around their ranch in the hill country. She loved nature and animals. She was an avid collector of rocks. She especially enjoyed finding uniquely shaped rocks; with a large collection of heart-shaped and smooth round rocks. She also loved to look for and collect deer antlers after the dear season, when they started losing them. She used to tell guests and family if you find any, they are mine and they stay here. Her love of animals knew no bounds. Janie was known for taking in all kinds of stray and injured animals. Finding homes or nursing them back to health and setting them free. This included baby skunks, raccoons, squirrels, feral cats, dogs, rabbits and birds. She instilled love, compassion, and respect of all God's creatures to her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, George C. Thompson Sr.; her mother, Susie Rebecca Quine Thompson; and her brother, George C. Thompson Jr. Janie is survived by her husband of 68 years, Almon “Chico” Bargas; daughters, Kerri Clausen and Hollie Bargas; her granddaughter, Tabitha Au; grandson, Benjamin Clausen; great-grandson, Colt Au, and great-granddaughter, Susie Clausen.

Visitation will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Temple, TX, on Wednesday July 15, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Temple, TX, on Thursday July 16, 2026, at 10:00 am. Graveside Service will follow at Pendleton Cemetery, Temple, TX.
