Born to Elzie Clifton (E.C.) and Edith Leoda Rolens Millikan on January 1, 1924 in Glendale, California, Bob was the youngest of six sons. He attended Occidental College, where he played football and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
In December 1942, Bob was called to the service of his country, joining the first United States Army Special Forces unit, the Devil’s Brigade. A radio operator and instructor, he was stationed in Europe throughout World War II. After the war, he was honored by both the United States and Norway, receiving a Congressional Gold Medal of Special Distinction and the Norwegian Defense Medal.
Immediately upon his return to the United States at Christmas 1945, Bob married the love of his life, Peggy Speck. They made their home in Lamesa, Texas, where they raised their three children: Robert Glen, Jr., Marsha Pat, and Gary Lynn. Bob was a beloved rural mail carrier for 34 years, and retired from the Postal Service in 1978.
Bob had a passionate love for music and for the Lord. He shared both with everyone he met. A longtime member of First Baptist Church Temple and later, Canyon Creek Baptist Church, Bob was a deacon and faithful member of the choir. He enjoyed golf, playing dominoes, dancing, and watching sports on TV. He loved sharing a bowl of ice cream with his grandkids (or great-grands), solving word puzzles, and reading good books. He gave the best back rubs and scratches known to mankind, and could tune any piano. There were no strangers to him - only friends he had not yet met.
Bob leaves behind his children, (Rob and Nona Millikan of Temple, Texas; Marsha Millikan of Temple, Texas; and Gary and Cindy Millikan, of Fort Worth, Texas), as well as seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind the family he acquired through his oldest son’s marriage later in life, including five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy, his parents, and all five of his brothers.
