Willard DeWitt (Matt) Mathieson

Services for Willard DeWitt (Matt) Mathieson, 83, of Temple will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 5 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with Lianne Turner officiating. Mr. Mathieson died Thursday, June 27 at a local hospice center. He was born on October 4, 1935 in Springfield, PA to parents Donald DeWitt Mathieson and Irma Lucille Hunter Mathieson. At 17 years old, he entered the United States Air Force and honorably served his country for 20 years. He met and married Dorothy Jean Mathieson on October 16, 1982 in Boise, ID. In August of 1983, son Scott Michael Mathieson was born. Shortly after, Matt and his family moved to Texas where he lived for the remainder of his life. He worked in the Bell County area in building trades as a self-employed carpenter. Matt was a part of several organizations throughout this area some of which include Cub Scouts & Boy Scouts of America, Toastmasters Club, and Temple Chamber of Commerce Red Carpet Ambassadors. He is preceded in death by parents Donald and Irma Mathieson, sister Verna Mae, and brother Edward Leroy Mathieson. Surviving relatives include wife Dorothy Jean Mathieson, son Scott Michael Mathieson, daughter-in-law Jessica H. Mathieson (Temple), sisters Fannie Supple (Niagara Falls, NY) and Bonnie Rihel (Grove City, PA). Memorials may be made to the Ralph Wilson Youth Club, PO Box 1346, Temple, TX 76503 or Gideon Bibles International. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 3 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Temple.
