Wilson Nieves Acevedo, age 74, of Harker Heights, Texas passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Olin E. Teague Veterans' Medical Center, Hospice Unit. He was born on February 28, 1949 in Aguada, Puerto Rico to Ramon Nieves De Jesus and Maria Acevedo Mendez. Wilson moved to Brooklyn, New York in the 1960's. Wilson completed his GED in 1970 and joined the United States Military on February 23, 1977 and retired on December 31, 1995 as SFC. He received the Army Commendation Medal (4th award), Army Achievement medal (2nd award), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Star (BSS), Non commissioned officer's professional development ribbon with numeral 3, Army service ribbon, Overseas service ribbon (4th award), Kuwait Liberation Medal and Marksman Marksmanship qualification badge with rifle bar. Wilson is preceded in death by his father Ramon Nieves De Jesus and his mother Maria Acevedo Mendez.
He is survived by his two sons, Wilson Nieves Jr. and wife Julie of Orlando, Fl, and Michael Nieves and wife Maria of Belton, TX, five grandchildren and one great-grandson, three sisters, Cecilia Nieves of Georgia, Carmen Serrano of Florida, Lourdes Beauvis of Rhode Island and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Wilson will be held Monday, October 2, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Temple, TX with a graveside service with Military Honors at 2:00pm at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, Texas.
