Obituary of Agnes Louise Tokarek
Agnes Yonek Tokarek died peacefully in her apartment at American Village Senior Community in Indianapolis on July 29, 2019, at the age of 92. She was the daughter of Teresa Babulik and Joseph Yonek and born in Leechburg, PA. She was the youngest of 10 children. As salutatorian of her class at Leechburg High School, she then attended Robert Morris Business College and became a secretary for Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company (PPG). She married Charles Tokarek, also of Leechburg, and had 4 children. They moved to Terre Haute in 1961 and lived there for almost 50 years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish. Agnes had a number of jobs in her career but her main focus was being a wife and mother. She was a woman of many talents, from growing prize-winning lilacs in her back yard, designing and sewing her daughter's First Communion dress, vegetable gardening and canning, a seamstress and chef extraordinaire. Throughout her adult life, she always enjoyed a good game of bridge. When she moved to American Village after the death of her husband, Charles, she led the walking and exercise groups in her senior community. She will truly be missed by her family and friends. Her siblings, Joseph Sluka, Mary Brezny, Ethel Groves, John Sluka, Verna Jensen, Steve Yonek, Theresa Veschi, Martha Yonek and Anna Yonek all preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Thomas Tokarek, Edward (Ted) Tokarek and Charles Tokarek, all of Indianapolis, IN, and Jean Tokarek of Oakland, CA; as well as 3 grandchildren, Trevor and Annie Tokarek of Indianapolis, and Travis Tokarek of Denver, CO. She is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews, and several grandnieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. Services will be Friday, August 2, 2019, at 11:00 AM, at Roselawn Funeral Home, with Father Daniel Bedel officiating. Mrs. Tokarek will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park.
