Allen W Newman

TERRE HAUTE — Allen W. Newman, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away at 1:10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at Meadows Manor East in Terre Haute. He was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Terre Haute, to Orville Newman and Marie Schlaman Newman. He was retired from Poly Mar Plastics. He was in the U.S. Army during World War II and served under General Patton. He was a member of Higher Ground Christian Center.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Scully) Newman; two daughters, Martha Sullivan of Terre Haute, and Libby Newman of Brazil; one son, Doug and wife Sherry Newman of Rosedale; two stepdaughters, Jeanine Utterback and husband David of Terre Haute and Joanna Gonzales and husband Ray of Holland, Mich., and one stepson, Jeff Scully of Austin, Texas; six grandsons; two stepgrandsons; three stepgranddaughters; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary Lou McClain Newman; son, Danny Gene Newman; and son-in-law, Jay Sullivan.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N. Lafayette. Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Dick Smith officiating. Interment Rosedale Cemetery.
