Obituary of Alma Jean Gregory
Alma Jean Manwaring Gregory, age 97 passed away peacefully on May 11, 2018 in Arizona. She was born September 25, 1920 to Luther C and Melvina Linebarger Manwaring in West Union, Indiana. Alma had the distinction of being a triplet. She shared a close kinship with her siblings. She was preceeded in death by her sister Mary Catherine Adams, brother Jack L. Manwaring , older brother Luther Manwaring, Jr. and her husband , Wendell Gregory. She was grateful to share her life with Wendell for over 52 years. He was the love of her life. After her husband's death in 1996, she moved from Terre Haute Indiana to Arizona to be near her niece and nephew, residing in Peoria Arizona for 18 years. Her family was grateful to have her near, enjoyed her company and having her be a special part of their lives. Alma was baptized and confirmed as a Christian. She graduated from Montezuma High School (Indiana) in 1938 and from Union Hospital School of Nursing (Terre Haute, Indiana) in 1941. Her nursing career spanned over 40 years and during that time she worked as an Industrial Nurse and a Surgical Operating Nurse. She was a member of the Union Hospital Alumni, Ladies Missionary Society and was recipient of the Indiana State University Florence Nightingale Award. Loved by many, Alma thrived on helping others and was a dedicated friend. She read her Bible daily, enjoyed gardening and baking, especially angel food cake. She had a warm personality which drew people to her. She was a member of the Willowbrook Methodist Church in Sun City, AZ and loved attending services there. Alma enjoyed her years in Arizona and the many friends she made while living at Desert Winds Independent Living. She will be missed by her family and many, many wonderful and caring friends Words can't possibly measure or truly capture the essence of a person, especially one as angelic as our Aunt Alma. She is survived by her niece Joan Adams Crockett and husband Don; nephews Joseph M. Adams (Vivianne) in Indiana, Kenneth Clark Manwaring (Charity) in Georgia; two great- nephews, Donald M. Crockett and Brian J. Crockett and three great-nieces, Ivey Manwaring, Sarah Ireland and Taylor Elrod. Visitation will be at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton Street, Terre Haute, IN 47805 from 12 noon to 1 PM EDST on Friday, May 18, 2018 with Services at 1 PM at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. In lieu of flowers, Alma requested memorial donations be sent to Linebarger Chapel at 5043 N. Ten O'Clock Road, Montezuma, Indiana 47862.
