

Barbara was born March 12, 1931, the daughter of the late James M. and Anna (Jones) Von Kannon. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1948 and on August 25, 1955 was united in marriage to Walter LeRoy Lyons. Barbara also worked for several years as a long distance operator.
She will forever be remembered as a dependable, funny and nurturing woman, who was always there for everyone. Her family was first and foremost in her life. Barbara also enjoyed following the Cubs, the Colts, crocheting, working on jig saw puzzles, playing cards, planting flowers and playing both the piano and organ. She was a devout Christian and for over fifty years and belonged to the 8th Avenue Baptist Church, where she was a dedicated Sunday school teacher to the first and second graders. Her memory will live on for generations to come.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Kathy and husband Gene McMahan of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Jessica and husband Michael Hawkins of Terre Haute and Jim Wilson of Terre Haute; great grandchildren, Taylor Lane Bryan and Shayla Anne Wilson and her brother, James Von Kannon I and his wife Donna of Macomb, IL. Her legacy will forever be remembered by her sister-in-law, Leona Reynolds; nephews, James D. Von Kannon II and wife Leah, David W. and wife Shari Von Kannon, Donald J. and wife Debbie Von Kannon, John G. Von Kannon and Michael L. and wife Erin Von Kannon, and her nieces, Christina L. and husband Sean Homan and Lori Reynolds.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was welcomed home to heaven by her husband, Walter LeRoy Lyons; beloved granddaughter, Charlene Messer; brother-in-law, Ernest Reynolds and special friend, Helen Myers.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, March 28, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. and again on Thursday, March 29, 2012 from 10 a.m. until the time of Barbara’s Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. at the Roselawn Funeral Home in Terre Haute. Her dear friend, Pastor Dick Smith will officiate with burial to follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Barbara’s entire family would like to thank Hospice of the Wabash Valley for the compassionate care they provided in her final days. Memorial contributions may be directed to family to cover medical expenses.
