Cheryl Ann (Boyll) Brown passed away peacefully at home with her husband by her side on August 12, 2025. She was born on December 17, 1958, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Verlin and Louise (Knaflich) Boyll, who predeceased her.
Cheryl was a 1977 graduate of North Vigo High School, where she was a Liberty Belle and a homecoming attendant. She served as secretary of Interact club and was a member of the Polaris yearbook staff. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana State University in 1981, where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority. She completed her Master of Science degree while teaching special education at North Vermillion Junior-Senior High School, where she taught until her retirement in 2014. A staunch advocate for students with special needs, Cheryl dedicated untold hours to providing educational growth and life skills; however, her advocacy was not to enable her students, but rather to teach them to stand up, be assertive, and fight for themselves in the face of injustice.
Cheryl married Timothy Birch Brown in 1988. Together they enjoyed traveling to beaches, casinos, and baseball games, as well as rescuing numerous cats and dogs. One of Cheryl’s favorite pastimes was meeting friends and family for long lunches.
Cheryl is survived by her husband of 36 years, Tim Brown; her sister, Karen (Runkel) Kunkler (Phillip); and sister-in-law, Libby (Brown) Busard (Lyman).
Aunt Cheryl dearly loved her nieces, Jessi (Runkel) Faulk (Joshua), Sarah (Runkel) Cuevas (Jair), Karly (Busard) Ilbrink (Jordan), and nephew, Kyle Busard (Ashley). Aunt Cheryl was blessed with numerous great-nephews: Nolan Faulk, Grayson and Cameron Ilbrink, Braxton and Everett Busard, and great-nieces Brynleigh and Elaila Busard.
In addition to her parents, Cheryl was predeceased by her brother-in-law, James Runkel, Jr., her father-in-law, Les Brown, and her mother-in-law, Benita (Woodard) Brown.
Cheryl will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park, 7500 N Clinton St., Terre Haute, IN, 47805 on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Visitation is from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. with the service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society.
