

Chester was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 and a member of Barbour Avenue Methodist Church. Chester loved to go fishing, loved gardening and woodworking. Chester was a three-year veteran of the United States Army, served as a fuel induction mechanic with distinctions in campaigns and battles that took him from the beaches of Normandy,to the German Rhineland and throughout central Europe. Chester worked as a mechanic repairing and test driving General Eisenhower’s Packards while he was in Europe, and spoke often of his trips to resupply General Pattons armored division prior to their engagement at the Battle of the Bulge. For his duties in service to his country, Chester received several awards such as three Overseas Service Bars, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater ribbon with four Bronze Battle Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nora, who he married on April 15,1949; three daughters, Elizabeth (Ed) Majors, Cathy Walters, and Lori Richter (Bobby Grizzle); a son, Stanley Jr. (Minda) Ellington; three sisters, Mildred Huey, Rose Blunk and Patsy Simpson; grandchildren, Cara Rhoades, Michael (Linda) Everhart, Robin (Steve) Travioli, Randy Majors, Rusty (Jan) Majors, Kevin (Dawn) Clerk, Lacey (Jason) Keep; great-grandchildren ,Brandon, Selina, Chelsea, Dessica, Austin, Shawn, Shelby, Shania ,Nathan, Peyton, Alex, Morgan, Parker, Ramsey, William, and Samantha; great-great-grandchild, Waylon, and a great-grandchild on the way, Josephine; and a great-great-grandchild on the way, John Michael.
Chester was preceded in death by his parents, Jonathan Ellington and Lela Spittler Ellington; and three brothers, Edward, Dean and Andy Ellington.
Services will be Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, with a visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be the Rev. Bob Roush with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
