Chester Leroy Swearingen

Chester Leroy Swearingen, 83, of Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015, at Signature Health Care. He was born on January 19, 1931, in Brazil, to Ernest and Minnie (Anderson) Swearingen. He graduated from Staunton High School. Chester retired from IBM after working many years as a computer operator. He was a member of Peniel Methodist Church, Kerman Grotto, Eagles Aerie 291, 541 Brazil Masonic Lodge, Cape Coral Elks 2596, and the Outdoor Recreation Club. Chester loved to garden and work outside in his spare time. He also loved to eat. Most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his family.

Chester is survived by his partner of 38 years Frances Bukovack of Terre Haute; children: Larry Swearingen and wife Virginia of Brazil; Gerald Swearingen and wife Patricia of Kitchner, Ontario; Ernie Swearingen and wife Sandy of Brazil; and Kim Huffer and husband James of Brazil; step-children, Joseph Bukovack and Arlene Jennings and husband Ron, all of Terre Haute; grandchildren: Laura Swearingen, Shawn Swearingen, Scott Swearingen, Jason (Heather) Swearingen, Collin (Jenny) Swearingen, Cameron (Laura) Swearingen, Chad (Amanda) Huffer, Kahla (Brian) Smitley, Joseph Bukovack III, Cassandra Bukovack, Ryanne Revercomb, and Christopher (Tiffany) Jennings; great-grandchildren: Austin and Seth Westfall, Brayden and Braxten Smitley, Gavin Huffer, Aiden Swearingen; Spencer and Madison Swearingen; Sydney Bukovack, and Charlie Jennings; twin brother Lester Swearingen and wife Delores of Brazil; and a sister Mary Ellen Honey of Terre Haute.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Jerry Phillip Swearingen, and a sister Lillian Rose Thomas.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 12 at Roselawn Funeral Home with visitation an hour prior. Private burial will take place in Roselawn Memorial Park.
