Eleanor May Long

Born on August 14, 1939, she was the daughter of the late James Ray Fulton and Vitanelle Marie Fulton.

Eleanor graduated from Otter Creek High School in 1957, and she cherished the lifelong friendships formed there — especially the monthly lunches she enjoyed with her high‑school girlfriends.

She married Ralph Taylor in 1958, and together they began their family in 1959, making their home in north Terre Haute. Eleanor built a long and dedicated career with Commercial Solvents, where she worked for more than 30 years. Her colleagues knew her as dependable, hardworking, and quietly steadfast.

After retiring, Eleanor volunteered for several years at the Clara Fairbanks Center for Women, offering her time, compassion, and steady presence. In 1990, she married George W. Long, and the two enjoyed traveling around the country together.

Eleanor was a longtime member of Rosedale Baptist Church, where she found fellowship, comfort, and community throughout her life. She also formed many dear friendships at Sycamore Manor, which became an important part of her later years.

Some of her interests included bowling, painting ceramics, and reading - hobbies that brought her joy and relaxation.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George W. Long (2019); her son‑in‑law, Greg Held (2025); her half‑sister, Mary Jane Holmes; her half‑brother, Ray Jr. Fulton; and her grandson, Stephen Hiatt (2017).

Eleanor is survived by her children, Becky Held of Terre Haute and Doug (Terry) Taylor of Indianapolis; her brother, Tom (Barbara) Fulton of Sarasota, Florida; and a cousin who was like a brother to her, Brooks Fulton of Terre Haute. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins who held her in great affection.

Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Kevin (Brianna) Love, Zach (Jessica) Taylor, Reilly Taylor, and Grace (Will) Marshall; and her great‑grandchildren: Liam Love, Nathan Love, Emma Taylor, and Reagan Love.

Eleanor will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and her unwavering devotion to her family. She cherished time with her children, grandchildren, great‑grandchildren and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park located at 7500 N. Clinton St., Terre Haute, IN 47805 on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 1:00pm.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 23 from 11:00am-1:00pm.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Sycamore Manor, Heart to Heart Hospice, and Debbie’s girls, for their kindness and support.
