Eugene "Gene" McKenzie

Eugene “Gene” E. McKenzie, 85, of Terre Haute, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 27, 1929, in Villa Grove, IL, to Eard and Opal Ellen (Sleeth) McKenzie.

Gene worked for 35 years at Lough Bros. He was a lifelong member of the Teamsters Union (Warehouseman and Chauffeurs). He previously worked for the railroad in Chicago. Gene was a member of the Eagles Club. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin on the river and going fishing. Most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

Gene is survived by his children: Mary Lavramore of Richmond, VA; Debra Smith of Terre Haute; Doretta Gray and her husband Mervin of Newport News, VA; Jack Allen McKenzie and his wife Brenda of ; Kevin McKenzie and his wife April of Clay City; loving step-sons, Gary Bugni of Terre Haute; and Dennis Mildazis of Rosedale; a brother, Jim McKenzie of Peru, IN; special granddaughter Lisa McKenzie and her fiancé Sidney Griffith who were his loving and devoted caregivers at his home; and numerous loving grandchildren , great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife Mona; his parents; sisters, Mary and Pat Walters Moore; a son Robert Eugene McKenzie; daughter, Connie Day; and step-sons, Perry Bugni and Wayne Mildazis.

Visitation will be held from 11 until 2 on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Dick Smith officiating.
