Frank met the love of his life while attending Garfield High School. He was naturally athletic, excelling at basketball, baseball and football. He graduated in 1951 and began attending classes at ISU. Frank was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served for two years before returning home to his beloved Patti. Frank received a Master’s degree in teaching at ISU. He and Patti were married on December 17, 1955.
Frank began his teaching career at Decker Chapel School. He was also the school basketball coach, transforming a team that won few games to a team that won all but four games in just three year’s time. He then taught at Gerstmeyer and later at Terre Haute North. Over the years, Frank taught Government, Economics, History, and upholstery classes.
Frank enjoyed nature and being outdoors. He could always be found tending to his and Patti’s beautiful yard and many acres of land. He loved to go fishing and mushroom hunting. A teacher by nature, he taught his daughter and grandchildren how to fish. He also loved to golf whenever he got the chance and passed this hobby on as well.
Frank is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Patti (McKillop) Sullivan of Terre Haute; children, John Sullivan of Florida and Kathy Loomis and her husband Dave of Aurora, Co; grandchildren, Kristi Sullivan Boshernitzan and her husband Yaniv of Houston, TX; Karah Yamauchi and her husband Mark of Aurora, CO; and Andrew Loomis (a first year teacher following in Frank’s footsteps) of Aurora, CO; great-grandchildren, Ari and Eva Boshernitzan and Makai and Miles Yamauchi; a brother-in-law, Don McKillop and wife Kelli; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Jack, Stan, Jim, Harold, Bob, and Don Sullivan; and in-laws: Shirley Barnett, Norma Korenski, and Mike, Huey, and Les McKillop.
